Functions

1. To facilitate and coordinate the implementation of the East African Community Treaty;
2. To facilitate and participate in consultative meetings of experts and stakeholders for effective participation in the East African Community Meetings and negotiations on Political, Defence and Security Affairs;
3. To provide advice on policy options and support actions to manage and resolve interstate and intra state conflicts in Political, Defence and Security areas;
4. To identify and analyse research areas, mobilise research funds and coordinate research exercises in the Political, Defence and Security in liaison with Division of Policy and Planning;
5. To work Closely with MDAs, Local Government Authorities and General;
6. Public in support of the East African Community integration process and enhancing Tanzania's participation in the Political, Defence and Security Affairs;
7. To analyse and provide information to Sectoral Ministries on implications of implementation of all agreements and protocols in the Political, Defence and Security matters in liaison with IEC Unit;
8. To mobilize commitment and ensure stakeholder support in the Political, Defence and Security matters;
9. To initiate and identify areas for research and studies in political, defence and security affairs; 
10. To analyse and provide information to the public on implications of implementation of all agreements on Political, Defence and Security matters
