A Joint Communique between Tanzania and Kenya

Joint Communique Issued At The End Of The Official Visit To The United Republic Of Tanzania By H.E Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Vice President And Minister For Home Affairs Of The Republic Of Kenya, From The 15th To The 18th May 2009.
At the invitation of H.E Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein, Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Vice President and Minister for Home Affairs of the Republic of Kenya made an official visit to the United Republic of Tanzania from the 15th to the 18th May 2009. H.E. Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka was accompanied by Hon. Members of Parliament and other officials of the Government of Kenya. At the Julius Nyerere International Airport, H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka was received by his host, H.E. Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein; Hon. Bernard Kamillius Membe (Mb.), Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania, as well as other senior officials of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the brotherly and historical bilateral relations, which happily exist between the Governments and peoples of Kenya and Tanzania. On the 16th May 2009, the two Leaders held officials talks whereby they discussed various issues of mutual interest at bilateral, regional as well as international levels. At the bilateral level, the two leaders underscored the excellent relations existing between the two countries and noted the need to enhance further cooperation in trade and investment, good neighborliness as well as exchange of expertise. In particular, the two leaders underlined the urgent need to implement the Agreement on the Establishment of a Joint Commission for Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Kenya and the United Republic of Tanzania, which was signed on the 13th July 1988 by His Excellency Ali Hassan Mwinyi, Former President of the United Republic Tanzania and His Excellency Daniel arap Moi, Former President of the Republic of Kenya. In this connection, they instructed their respective Ministers for Foreign Affairs to begin consultations for the launching of the Joint Commission for Cooperation. H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka also visited Zanzibar from the 16th to the 18th May 2009, where he was received by Hon. Shamsi Vuai Nahodha, Chief Minister of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Amani Abeid Karume, President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council. During the courtesy call, they discussed issues of common interest between the Republic of Kenya and the United Republic of Tanzania. While in Zanzibar, H.E. Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka also visited Government spice farms at Kizimbani and Jozani Forest. H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka and his entourage departed from Zanzibar on the 18th May 2009. At Zanzibar International Airport, he was seen off by Hon. Shamsi Vuai Nahodha. H.E Kalonzo Musyoka expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of the United Republic of Tanzania for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation during their stay in Tanzania. H.E. Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka extended an invitation to H.E. Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein and Hon. Shamsi Vuai Nahodha to visit Kenya. The dates of the visits will be agreed upon through diplomatic channels.
